Re: “Scenes From a Do-Nothing City Council

Robert Gammon's article in last Wednesday's East Bay Express is precisely the type of in your face journalism that has gone extinct in the mainstream press.
Let's not take Mr. Gammon's detractors too seriously, after all, it was Mr. Gammon's reporting that led to the outing of Ignacio De la fuente's former chief of staff, Carlos Plazola. In addition to the fact that Mr. Plazola's comments are completely devoid of integrity, they also lack the facts, something that Mr. Plazola has become quite accustomed to these days. Let's think ab out these two points:

1. Gammon outed Plazola when it was discovered that Carlos used his position within the city to advocate for the rezoning of industrial land to benefit his private development company--(talk about ignoring facts and writing garbage!)

2. Plazola should be thanking Bob Gammon--after all, Gammon did not mention the fact that Plazola passed around a disingenuous, fear mongering "hit piece" on Mayor Dellums accusing the Mayor's recent housing policy of "institutionalizing crime and poverty in Oakland." Moreover, Mr. Plazola used the City's Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council's listserv, a list that should be used to address the city's continuing crime wave, to distribute this swill.

So, in closing, Mr. Gammon may in fact be a "bleeding heart," lord knows, I may be too, but I'll take an arm chair quarterback like Mr. Gammon over a cheap, embittered hustler who is as much a failure in private life as he was in the public, any day of the week.
