Cultural Assimilation and Racial Make-Up of Spanish California

When: Wed., March 26, 1-2 p.m. 2008
Price: free

Everyone's heard of Lewis and Clark -- but if you're into explorers, how about Juan Bautista de Anza, the Spanish soldier who traversed what would later be California in 1774-5, discovering many of the routes that are today's boulevards and highways? At the Oakland Library's Lakeview Branch (550 El Embarcadero, Oakland) on March 29, Vladimir Guerrero, author of The Anza Trail, discusses cultural assimilation and the racial makeup of Spanish California. 2 p.m.
