Creole Belles

When: Tue., May 19, 8:30 p.m. 2009
Price: $10

After a dozen years as a favorite of the Bay Area Cajun-zydeco dance scene, the Creole Belles have finally recorded their first CD, and will celebrate with a Mardi Gras dance party with a long list of guest musicians joining in on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Ashkenaz (1317 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley). The all-ages party features original tunes and Louisiana Cajun classics, along with zydeco versions of such New Orleans staples as "IkoIko." Joining the quartet -- fiddler Delilah Lee Lewis, accordionist Maureen Karpan, bassist-fiddler Karen Celia Heil, and guitarist Karen Leigh -- is longtime guest accordionist-singer Andrew Carriere (of the famed Louisiana Carriere music family), fiddler Suzy Thompson, and fellow members of the California Cajun Orchestra. Costumes and masks are encouraged. 9 p.m., $13, or 510-525-5054.
