Informative if unremarkable documentary traces the path of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the Tibetan Buddhist holy man (1939-1987) whose mission to the West, especially the United States, starting in the 1960s brought a new spiritual outlook to receptive Baby Boomers and created such lasting effects as the Naropa Institute and Shambhala. Trungpa’s seemingly enigmatic pronouncements and actions — he drank too much alcohol, formed his own private paramilitary org, and had sex with favorite followers — take up much of producer/director Johanna Demetrakas’ film, although another adherent explained it thusly: “The teaching was: There is no certainty.” Worth a look for the curious. Director: Johanna Demetrakas
