It’s a long way from a High School or Public Housing, or even from the rehearsals of the Paris Opera Ballet in La Danse, to documentarian Frederick Wiseman’s cinema-verité peek at the denizens of Paris’ renowned nightclub Crazy Horse, where almost-nude showgirls strut their stuff for tourists. There’s a distinct lack of real-world tension in this particular Wiseman subject, as if the rigors of choosing costumes, directing the lighting, and choreographing the sexiness aren’t quite as urgent as the business of fighters at a Boxing Gym or people at a Racetrack. But it’s their world and Wiseman shows how it is. The young women, uniformly apple-bottomed and long-stemmed, are displayed with maximum care by Crazy Horse director Phillip Decouflé. And we get to watch. (128 min.)
