Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
With a wry, modern wink: Crash Symbols is a record label, but it's not. Why? Its operations alternate between a Tumblr and a Bandcamp page; its office is an abstract notion somewhere between here and West Virginia; it releases weird shrink-wrapped cassettes, mostly of mixtapes, many of which are free online; its whole methodology is to take albums and re-package them, many times providing remixes and making them better. But now that Crash Symbols is (at least partially) based in Oakland, it's established a much more tangible local exhibition. Pressed And is a promising young act, one of many stars of the Crash Symbols family who are furthering the good cause of electronic music that's both danceable and experimental. Local fair-haired free spirits Parentz and Trails & Ways will round out the lineup, along with the even more fresh-faced opener Black Jeans.
