County Races Still Close, But No Cigar

The most recent update from the Alameda County Registrar of Voters shows Alameda School's Parcel Tax, Measure H, is now at 66.65 percent - one step closer to reaching the 66.67 percent it needs to win.

In another close race, incumbent Alice Spearman has just barely crossed the 50 percent threshold she needs to stay out of a runoff with Doris Limbrick in Oakland's school board District Seven, East Oakland-Elmhurst.

Voting totals aren't in yet because thousands of absentee ballots were turned in to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters on Tuesday. Registrar spokesman, Guy Ashley, says that the registrar still has a small number of absentee ballots to tabulate, and roughly 6,500 provisional ballots to count before results are finalized. He imagines they will be finished counting by mid-week next week. "I think we're all watching closely," said Ashley.

Other close races haven't changed much since yesterday's report:

In Oakland City Council District Three, West Oakland-downtown, incumbent Nancy Nadel is still at 51.8 percent, which is 1.8 ahead of the threshold to avoid a runoff with Sean Sullivan.

In the Oakland school board race District Three, Jumoke Hinton Hodge still has a strong lead over her opponent, Olugbemiga Oluwole.

City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente now has 54.1 percent of the vote and is unlikely now to have to face a runoff against Mario Juarez in the District Five, Fruitvale-Glenview.

Kerry Hamill, in second place in the Oakland at-large council contest, now holds a three-point lead over Clinton Killian and will almost certainly make the runoff against Rebecca Kaplan.
