Re: “Jerry, Barack, and the GOP

Being the prescient lad that I am, I recognized early on that Obama was doing the right thing not getting into shouting matches with the GOP. First off, he could pound the table and wag his finger all he wants but it’s not going to make those incalcitrant sonsabitches do anything except send out tea mails and press releases. Moreover, there’s a direct pipeline from Barack's mouth to Fox News.
I think he recognized that it was going to take more than a year for economic and employment numbers to improve so he let the Republicans smell blood and think that they were going in for the kill. Well a bull thinks the same thing right before a matador shoves a sword up his ass. Sure enough, in their effort to cast the president as weak and ineffectual Boehner and certain members of the house set the narrative: the Reps are obstructionists. They share the damn blame for the economic mess now. Have you noticed the numbers for congress are lower than the president’s?
Now Obama gets to throw in the raising taxes/help the teachers/ build roads chip to reinvigorate his democratic base. Meanwhile the Reps realized they blew their wad with the debt ceiling debacle and now they have to start making the move back to the center thus alienating the stalwarts of crazy: the Tea Party. That’s not to say that all of them vote though. Its hard to punch a voting card when you’re in a strait jacket.
If all goes well and Greece doesn’t fall into the ocean, the U.S. economy will be in better shape in 14 months. Obama will have a whole lotta successes notched in his belt, and the republicans will have a whole lotta crazy for Plouffe to feast on. I like Obama’s chances. The wiley bastard did it to them again. Pure rope-a-dope!
