Calioto at 924 Gilman

“Google Drive” is the perfect laid-back summer jam. The rapper, Calioto, who was born in Oakland but currently resides in Walnut Creek, created a video that features everything you could possibly want for a chill summer day: ice cream, brews, weed, Gameboys, and kiddie pools. It’s a day-in-the-life kind of track that’s also kind of a love song. The easy-going West Coast vibe is fairly consistent throughout the rest of Calioto’s tracks on his Soundcloud page. (His debut LP, It’s Calioto, is currently in the works.) Even though some of his verses have the ring of harsh reality (e.g., Looking at my bank statements, thinking life is a bitch ain’t it), there’s something consistently uplifting about Calioto’s music. His show on Saturday is part of a “conscious hip-hop” night at 924 Gilman. Also performing will be rappers Brant Jackson and Mason G.
