Re: “Is Alameda Ready for the Big One?

Let's be perfectly clear: Neither Oakland nor Alameda has the ability to fight fires after an earthquake at the moment. Oakland gave up it's ability when former, and now current Interim Chief Gerald Simon gave up our staffed Fire Boat at the request of Former Mayor Jerry Brown. Without the pumping capacity that this boat supplies, Oakland cannot, and will not be able to fight any fires when the ancient underground water system fails. Which of course, it will. In addition, we have the 4th Largest Port in the nation completely unprotected by any water-based Firefighting capacity.

Only the San Francisco Fire Department has the foresight to not only have 2 Fire boats ready for this eventuality, but separate water systems that are designed for just these events.

The Oakland Fire Department is probably one of the least prepared large Fire Departments in the Bay Area for any major disaster, not just an Earthquake, but Alameda is not too close behind.

Re: “Chip Johnson Says No to Cop Tax

Chris - I WORK for this city as a public safety employee, and I don't want to pay this tax. I am not alone either. Clean up the waste, then tax more if you need it, and stop spending the D@@N money on things like Kids First 2 and YMB bakery type projects....Hopefully with Edgerly out it might improve a smidgen...
