Company C Contemporary Ballet

When: Jan. 22-23, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $18-$40

Adventurous, entertaining, and more mature each season, Walnut Creek's seven-year-old Company C Contemporary Ballet garners accolades for quality and artistry on both coasts - and has just been named to Dance Magazine's list of "25 to Watch" for 2010. Notable for launching world premieres (including a piece by Twyla Tharp - a remarkable coup for a small company), they'll do it again at the Lesher Center for the Arts (1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek) with a new work by heralded young choreographer and Michael Smuin protégé Amy Seiwert, set to music by Otis Redding. The mixed repertory also includes LarLubovitch's dynamic Cavalcade; Charles Anderson's athletic Akimbo, with music by Ornette Coleman, Ben Johnston, and others; and the delightful Nine-Person Ball Passing, in which dancers move a ball around the stage in ways we mere mortals could never do. Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23. 8 p.m., $18-$40. 925-943-7469 or or
