Uh-oh. We’re screwed. Michael Ruppert, subject of this deliberately low-key documentary by filmmaker Chris Smith (The Pool, The Yes Men), bristles at the label “conspiracy theorist.” He’s really more of a prophet of doom, who believes the advent of “peak oil” in the near future will wipe out our economic system and change the world as we know it forever. He certainly has his facts arranged for Smith’s talking-head interview. Sample revelation: “There are ten calories of hydrocarbon energy in every calorie of food consumed in the industrialized world.” The doc merely sits Ruppert down and lets him talk — after a montage of riot-and-flames newsreels. Is he crazy? We shall see (82 min.).
