A fragile middle-aged actress (Juliette Binoche) frets about her past while her assistant (Kristen Stewart) and an up-and-coming young actress (Chloë Grace Moretz) look on, in writer-director Olivier Assayas’ female-based psychodrama. The whole thing takes place in a particularly scenic corner of Switzerland, so if we get bored with the emotional storming we can always gaze at the fog creeping through the mountain passes. But that never happens. Binoche and Stewart work together like a fine Swiss watch, while Moretz’ Hollywood glamour-brat steals the movie. A fine addition to filmmaker Assayas’ roster of contemporary “women’s pictures,” and a worthy showcase for the three actresses (124 min.).
