Re: “Meet Oakland's New Go-To Lobbyist

Mr. Gammon, I firmly believe you're doing a disservice to journalism by your intentional targeting of people you disagree with. Sir, understanding that the East Bay Express has a progressive slant to it, one would expect that progressives are above the norm of "contact sport"politics, in which creates apathy in our electoral process. It is sad that the East Bay Express only contributes to the status quo by the article you just wrote. I feel your article on Mr. Plazola was not fair, because you didn't even write the fact that he and the developer of the Gateway project plan to build a much needed tech center that could give our children in East Oakland a fighting chance in facing the challenges of a global economy. Instead, your article on Mr. Plazola seriously challenges your credibility as a journalist.

Our city has suffered enough, don't you think? Is progress to you an innocent 10 year old practicing piano only to be struck by a stray bullet from a 24 year old robber that doesn't have the skills to compete in a highly technologically proficient society ? Please realize that with the advent of the Iraq War,Urban America had to become more self-reliant because of the lack of federal funding. Jobs and growth are the best deterrents to crime in which would help our Mayor's plans for a model city, especially the fact that OPD has a hard time in not meeting its recruitment goals. Developments help pay for our infrastructure, after school programs, affordable housing programs, new public parks, park maintenance and innovations in green technology for new buildings. Could Mr. Gammon and the new progressive agenda provide these crucial necessities that our city needs without federal funds? I implore you to be more objective by sticking to the issues rather than having articles serving as your own personal satellite guided bombs to people that you may disagree with. True journalists tend to put their politics aside and get the facts from both parties. I have faith that you will do the right thing and refrain from personal hit pieces in the future. Don't worry we'll be receiving plenty from both the Democrats and Republicans in 2008. Please consider true progress by ceasing personal attacks and focusing on issues that us Oaklanders could unite on. We're so divided already as a nation, as a people and as a city. 2008 is a year of change! Could we work together in bringing true progress to Oakland by providing jobs for our citizens? Especially our citizens in the flatlands that have to awake to the sounds of gunfire almost every night. The petty personal attacks will never solve the real issues of crime in historically safe areas such as Rockridge or Grand Lake. Your criticisms will never solve the fact that 16 year olds on the streets of Oakland our capo regimes of highly organized 21st century crime families. The slandering of Carlos Plazola and Laura Blair will never eradicate the fact that public officials in the Oakland school district robbed our kids blind hence the State had to takeover. Our beloved city needs to grow beyond pettiness and truly become a model city of the 21st century. Don't you agree?
