Oakland’s Clipd Beaks have a new record out, and they’re calling it a “turning point” in their seven-year career. To Realize was released on January 26, and while it’s described as “a tribute to love, to moving forward, to rejecting doom,” there’s still a darkness that pervades tracks like “Atom” and the lonesome, transporting “Desert Highway Music.” The band’s sound does seem more realized and fuller this time around, so the recorded songs (like the noisy, disorienting “Broke Life” and the droning rock of “Blood”) should translate nicely live. The band plays Oakland’s Rooz Cafe tonight at 8 p.m. w/ RCCCCNS and Cherry St. Mary.
