Cinematheque 123: What's Good for the Goose is Good for the Gosling

When: Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m. Continues through Oct. 31 2011
Price: free

Look no further than your local cinema -- or the Express' movie listings -- to see what kind of dominance Ryan Gosling has exerted in the film industry of late: The Canadian heartthrob is currently starring in The Ides of March, Drive, and Crazy, Stupid, Love. But before Gosling ended up in every movie on the face of the planet, he was a Mouseketeer, and then a low-profile, if well-loved, indie actor. Throughout the month of October, the good people at Local 123 (2049 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley) honor Gosling with a slate of the actor's earlier work, as part of the coffee shop's weekly Cinematheque 123 series. On Wednesday, Oct. 19, "What's Good for the Goose Is Good for the Gosling" continues with The Believer, a chilling Sundance grand jury winner that stars Gosling as an Orthodox-Jew-turned-Neo-Nazi; the following week, just in time for Halloween, it's the creepy legal drama Fracture, co-starring Anthony Hopkins. 7:30 p.m., free. 510-647-5270 or
