Chubby Behemoth

When: Wed., June 11, 9 p.m. 2008
Price: $5

Brooklyn sextet Chubby Behemoth doesn't make noise so much as cacophony, an unruly blitzkrieg of saxophone, guitar, violin, keyboard, drums, contrabass, and irate, six-part vocals. This is, somehow, part of the fun, particularly when pushed up against a rare swirl of pseudo-melody. The band closes out the night at the Stork Club on Wednesday, so if it's too much to handle you can just take off, content with having enjoyed less bewildering sets by Oakland's Little Teeth (unsettled indie-pop borrowing from Sparklehorse, XiuXiu, and Animal Collective) and Seattle's PWRFL Power (virtuosic post-pop from the guilelessly charming Kazutaka Nomura on such inane topics as holding chopsticks and being yourself). Merely showing up guarantees more than you bargained for. 9 p.m., $5.
