If anyone’s got it in their heads to start a full-on disco revival, now would be the time to get on that. How do I know? The overwhelming success of Montreal electro-pop duo Chromeo. Ok, they’re not technically a disco group. The influences range from synth-pop, funk, and R&B. But the group’s disco elements are prominent enough that you can easily see that a large part of their success is in how much audiences are liking those funky-disco beats, slap bass, and soulful vocals. The group met in college in the mid-90s and got the project off the ground by the turn of the century. One thing they always focused on was producing highly infectious pop-oriented songs with danceable beats. So even when the group isn’t technically playing disco, it sure feels like a spiritual equivalent of disco at the very least. And crowds are grooving to it
