Comedy, Family, Romance
The title pretty much says it all: syrupy romantic comedy dripping with unearned sentiment. In this case, the setting is a ski resort owned and run by Native Americans. Chief Joseph Clouds on Fire (Sam Vlahos) has taken to writing love letters to a pen pal, Tina Little Hawk (Mari Ana Tosca), who has lost her husband. Taken, Tina shows up at the resort under a different name and mistakes Ray (Timothy Vahle), Joseph's handsome and driven (also leaden) son, for her correspondent. Meanwhile, Ray thinks that Tina is a writer for a travel publication, visiting incognito to review the resort. Everything else is predictable: romance, sex, Three's Company-caliber innuendo where the nouns are euphemized, resulting in utterly contrived miscommunication. Quirky subplots abound, as do moments of false compassion and cheer. There's also melodrama, with Joseph nearly dying on a hike to save a fallen hotel guest. (It was schmaltz in The English Patient, and it's schmaltz here.)
