Chris Corsano, Okkyung Lee, and Bill Orcutt

When: Sun., Sept. 20, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $15, $20
Adventurous local concert-goers know Bill Orcutt. The guitarist, formerly of Nineties noise-rock act Harry Pussy, performs frequently and in a way that leaves a strong impression. He opts for using just a few strings and prizes attack, exploring how stretched steel snaps and rattles under forceful gestures. Orcutt’s technique feels disciplined but reckless, not unlike Okkyung Lee’s approach to the cello. The improviser, who joins Orcutt on a bill at The Lab (29148 16th St., San Francisco) on Friday, commands savagery and grace, coercing alien noises that at times sound more like the instrument’s wood than its strings. Rounding out the evening of singular instrumentalists is the percussionist Chris Corsano, who has pollinated indie-rock with experimental sensibilities while churning out prolific jazz and improv for decades. Each performer alone makes for an attractive bill; together, it’s crucial.
