Re: “Chevron to Get More Money from East Bay Taxpayers

Mr. Gammon,

Chevron believes the County's independent Appeals Board made the right decision based on the facts that were presented during the appeals process. Like any other taxpayer, we want a fair and reasonable process for assessing the value of the Refinery.

A fair and reasonable process is something every taxpayer – no matter how big or small – deserves and will help ensure our ability to operate successfully, provide good-paying jobs and support programs that help improve the quality of life for local residents.

Chevron recognizes that Contra Costa County and others are facing challenging fiscal times. We are committed to working with local government officials to implement the decision in such a way that considers the important services that they provide to County residents.

As for the headline on your posting, we are not sure what is meant by "more money from East Bay taxpayers". We are an East Bay Taxpayer and it's money that the County's Appeals Board determined Chevron has overpaid that is due back to us.

We would be happy to discuss this with you in the interest of ensuring your readers are presented with statements and information that are completely accurate.
