Chatham County Line

When: Wed., Sept. 7, 9:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $12

Despite the fact that Chatham County Line released its self-titled debut nearly three years after the bluegrass explosion triggered by the O Brother, Where Art Thou?soundtrack, CCL had, in fact, been tripping the twang fantastic since its formation in 1999. After getting spotted by roots rock legend Chris Stamey while opening for Tift Merritt's band, the North Carolina quartet landed a deal with Yep Roc Records. In subsequent years, Chatham County Line released four albums, the most recent being last year's Wildwood. Taking the stage in suits, ties and the occasional Stetson, usually while crowding around a single microphone, this foursome produces the kind of high, lonesome sound and goosebump-raising harmony that'll make you swear the ghost of Bill Monroe is nearby. For at least one night, old-time mountain music will get its due at Café du Nord (2170 Market St., San Francisco) on Wednesday, Sept. 7. 9:30 p.m., $12. CafeDuNord.com
