Drama, Romance
Charlie (played by Zac Efron) is a talented sailboat racer and designer, but he spends his time tending the local cemetery, where he plays catch with his deceased younger brother Sam (Charlie Tahan), killed in an auto accident that the guilt-obsessed Charlie survived. And then the story turns spookier. Not to mention maudlin, sugar-coated, and generally mushy. The only thing missing from this gothic-romance version of Ben Sherwood’s novel is a choir of angels. The okay supporting cast of Donal Logue, Amanda Crew, Kim Basinger, and Ray Liotta mostly goes to waste. Directed as if it were a religious video by Burr Steers, from a screenplay adapted by Craig Pearce and Lewis Colick (99 min.).
