Re: “OPD’s Lost Officer Class

Congratulations for hinting that mayor Jean Quan rushed hiring just before her attempt to get re-elected. This was after years during which she let the department shrink, told lies about police salaries, and famously said that 92 percent of all violent crime in Oakland was in eight small neighborhoods ... or 90 percent in 100 city blocks ... or ... while she refused to identify the areas.

Re: “Laney or Bust!

Every study by non-partisan economists finds that stadiums are a COST to the population. For example, "In cities that have baseball franchises, the net effect of an existing baseball team playing in a 37,000-seat baseball-only stadium (the average capacity of the baseball stadiums in our sample) is a $10 reduction of real per capita income." This site is particularly offensive because it will slowly choke Laney College to death and because it will make travel from the east into downtown Oakland more difficult.

Re: “A Towering Scam

"Quan, the first Chinese-American woman to be mayor of a major U.S. city" - why does the Express not check the facts before it reprints her self-inflating falsehoods? Quan began by claiming to be the first Asian mayor, man or woman. Then she backed off to first Asian woman mayor. Well, Japanese-American Eunice Sato became the mayor of Long Beach, California in 1980. Did Quan ever narrow her claim again? Cecelia Xie Birge became mayor of Montgomery, N.J. in 2007. Quan kept adding modifiers to be a first. Yeah, maybe the first U.S. mayor to get into an auto accident in a City car while driving and talking on the phone at the same time. She did that on June 8, 2014.

More important, the Express buries the basic shame of the EB-5 program: rich families in China with $500,000 get a U.S. green card. The federal government barely audits whether the required jobs are created. The money is really a purchase of a greased path to U.S. citizenship for their son or daughter or whomever.

Re: “Federal Judge: No More Officers to Face Discipline for Mishandling Oakland Police Sex Crimes Case

Racial profiling is a good test of ideology. If police stop Blacks more often than their proportion of the city population, is that evidence of racial profiling? No. Now watch this video of a double laptop theft at a Starbucks in Alameda. If you soon thought it was reasonable for employees and customers to be suspicious, was that racial profiling? No - suspicion is not conclusion.

Re: “Attorneys Tell Federal Judge OPD Commanders Should Still be Disciplined for Mishandling Sex Crimes Case

John Burris is "Guap's" attorney, shaking down every government agency he can. Here Burris in another capacity asks a federal judge to make a negative finding about OPD. Commentator BondGraham fails to note the conflict of interest.

Re: “Keak Da Sneak in Stable but Critical Condition After Shooting

Williams takes credit for coining the term "hyphy" - a term that glorifies reckless driving. Former Oakland mayor Jean Quan's favorite poverty pimp, the executive director of Youth UpRising, rented out her teen members for the music video that E40 and Keak made to sing the praises of hyphy. Next time you see a fence smashed when a showoff driver lost control, you can thank Keak, Quan, and Olis Simmons.

Re: “Oakland Police Assist Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents in Early Morning Arrest

In addition to the Nixle statement that David Howard posted here, more relevant details are in the East Bay Times. 1) A federal spokesperson said, "It's not an immigration enforcement action. This is a criminal investigation." 2) A woman at the house owns two janitorial businesses, and agents investigated whether she exploits people. 3) This woman's 21-year-old daughter who also lives at the house said that after initially being aggressive, the federal agents were "really nice and we were treated respectfully." -- All relevant details that writer Darwin "Disregard the Facts" omits.
