Charlie King

When: Fri., May 9, 8 p.m. 2008
Price: $15-$18

Three acts from around the country band together to battle the president, global warming, and injustice, using weapons they all share: catchy songs loaded with satire and laugh-out-loud humor. On Friday, May 9, the great folk troubadour Charlie King, the Prince Myshkins (the wacky but insightful accordion-guitar duo from Madison, Wisconsin), and YouTube star and Marin singer Roy Zimmerman share the stage at La Peña Cultural Center (3105 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley). King has spent most of his life fighting for justice and freedom through his songs, which have been recorded by Pete Seeger,Arlo Guthrie, and many others. Zimmerman and the Myshkins are younger, but no less insightful, and definitely funny. 8 p.m., $15, $18. LaPena.org or 510-849-2568.
