Re: “Mozzarella Sticks? How 'Bout Tequila in a Sippy Cup?

Your headline for the story regarding the toddler served a “sippy cup” filled with margarita mix in Antioch CA at an Applebees' restaurant is very misleading and possibly opens your news organization to a lawsuit by Applebee's. The police have clearly stated numerous times now that the child was served margarita mix without alcohol. Margarita mix is a concentrated juice containing lime, lemon, and other non-alcoholic flavorings which is added to tequila and triple sec in the drink making process. The concentrated nature of the lime juice in a highly citric base would probably make a toddler ill, but the mix itself is non-alcoholic. This same mix is used to make a lime daiquiri in bars, and the margarita mix is often blended with ice and served as a “virgin” (non-alcoholic) daiquiri for children. For your headline to say that this toddler was served a margarita is a lie. Reading the text of the story indicates that the child was not served a margarita only the juice mix. I am very disappointed that your news team opted to sink to the level of “yellow journalism” and place such an inaccurate headline on this story. You owe the general public an apology for this exaggeration just to bring attention to the story and your news outlet.
