Charles Wollenberg

When: Sat., June 14, 2-3:30 p.m. 2014
Charles Wollenberg wrote the book on Berkeley — literally: His 2008 book, Berkeley: A City in History, chronicles the story of the city in tender prose and assiduous detail. This weekend, Wollenberg will present a special talk about the city — and the sometimes fraught, sometimes fruitful relationship with the university that shares its name — as part of a continuing series at the Berkeley Public Library Main Branch (2090 Kittredge St.) appropriately titled “Berkeley and the Great State U.” This installment will focus specifically on Mario Savio, the Free Speech Movement, and town-gown relationships from the Sixties through the Eighties. Consider it required reading — er, listening — for Berkeley residents old and new.
