While Brünnhilde is self-immolating in San Francisco Opera's production of Wagner's Götterdämmerung, the dozen boys of Chanticleer find themselves in a life-affirming romantic mood. Singing poetry by Friedrich Ruckert, Alexander Pushkin, Joseph von Eichendorff, Rumi, Octavio Paz and Tzu Ye, the male vocal ensemble that may very well be America's best sings music by Daniel-Lesur, Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Stephen Paulus (a Chanticleer commission), and VissarionSehbalin. If some of these names are new to you, by all means head to First Congregational Church (2345 Channing Way, Berkeley) on Saturday, June 4 at 8 pm. $20-$44. 415-392-4400 or
