Fans of Gladiator and Braveheart may thrill to writer-director Neil Marshall’s “aaarrrggghhh!” dialogue and the copious bloodletting in his story of a lost patrol of Roman soldiers, circa 117 CE, fighting its way out of the territory of the hirsute and gnarly Picts in what is now the Scottish Highlands. But we’ll just say hail and farewell. Michael Fassbender and Imogen Poots get in a few good licks as a brave imperial squaddy and a friendly witch, respectively – everyone else overacts as if their paycheck depended on it. The worst offenders are Dominic West (Roman commander) and Olga Kurylenko (mute Pict warrior), but it’s a group project. Nice cinematography, though. (97 min.)
