Re: “Yelp Extortion Allegations Stack Up

This article immediately lost any credibility with me (full disclosure: I am an Atlanta Elite Yelper so I went in trying to be open-minded but not expecting to like what I would read) with the completely innacurate statement "the only way for them [business owners] to salvage their reputation is by paying Yelp." No. Owners, managers, etc - ie restaurant/business representatives can and should register as Yelp users in that type of account and then they can respond directly to Yelpers.
We Yelpers love hearing from business owners who care enough to respond and take sincere feedback, good or bad, constructively.

The rest of the article was inflammatory and one-sided - that side being anti-Yelp. There are just as many, or in my opinion and experience more, business owners large or small, who benefit and appreciate Yelp and what it does for their business. Oh, and while there is a first-name-last-initial identification for Yelpers, there are also "profiles" we all complete with more info about us and the "orangeheads" (those with no pictures) neither reflect the core contributing Yelpers nor do they reflect the commitment to "Real people, real reviews" that really is what Yelp is about.
