Re: “Confessions of a Pregnant Wine Writer

I thank and admire this author for taking a risk in her honesty and reminding us women (and men) that mothers are human! The bubble-wrapped pregnancy trend is enough to turn any of us yet-to-be-a-mom women away from the experience of having kids. This article is not just about drinking or guzzling wine during a pregnancy - it's about encouraging mothers and their partners to trust themselves and tap into personal knowledge during one of the most personal experiences in the world. The medical-model-adoring world has turned some of my friends - whether they have kids or not - into opinionated encyclopedias of medical knowledge, fountains of supposed wisdom on how to raise your child. If this author is insecure, good for her! She uses the alcohol during pregnancy issue to highlight and introduce something that's important to me - how we ask women to turn away from their intuition, and they ways in which this causes us to doubt ourselves. Thank you!
