Cancer Study Links Pot to Testicular Tumors; San Jose Cannabis Protest Today

The SJCBC (San Jose Cannabis Buyers Collective), Pharmers Health Center Cooperative, and Union Local 13 are protesting to protect all medical cannabis in San Jose today from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on June 22nd at the same time. More headlines after the jump.

— Ex-USF athlete Hyman Taylor Jr. was fatally shot and a suspected accomplice was wounded June 6 by a man they were trying to rob of a large amount of marijuana, police said Monday. The Merc reports: “Taylor Jr. made plans to meet on June 6 with some suppliers in the parking lot of the IKEA furniture store in Emeryville. ... Jones said police are investigating the possibility that Taylor and the others had been doing similar robberies. He said police are still trying to identify the two suppliers and interview them.”

— Reuters reports on a study that shows a relationship between marijuana and testicular cancer.

“The study of 369 Seattle-area men ages 18 to 44 with testicular cancer and 979 men in the same age bracket without the disease found current marijuana users were 70 percent more likely to develop it compared to nonusers. The risk appeared to be highest among men who had reported smoking marijuana for at least 10 years, used it more than once a week or started using it before age 18, the researchers wrote in the journal Cancer. ”
