California Turns to the Right

In clear evidence that Californians have grown increasingly unhappy with the Democratic Party, a new poll shows that two Republican candidates are now in a virtual dead heat with longtime US Senate incumbent Barbara Boxer. The new Field poll shows GOP moderate Tom Campbell leading the liberal Boxer 44 to 43 percent, while the more conservative Carly Fiorina trails her by just 45 to 44 percent., which aggregates poll results, has Boxer just barely ahead of Campbell:

The new poll caps a striking turnaround for Fiorina in particular. According to, the former Hewlett Packard CEO was nearly 20 points behind Boxer a little more than a year ago:

The poll results also come on the heels of a Field Poll that showed GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman taking the lead over Democratic state Attorney General Jerry Brown. Clearly, California, a traditional Democratic stronghold, has taken a sharp turn to the right.
