California Keeps Subsidizing Other States

It’s no secret that California taxpayers keep the federal government afloat. It’s also no secret that the Golden State has traditionally received far less in return than other states. In fact, California only gets 78 cents for every tax dollar it sends to Washington DC. Just seven other states receive a worse deal. So, it’s about time that the feds started sending more money to the Left Coast, especially during the economic downturn. And it’s past time that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and state Democratic leaders started demanding more funds from the feds.

According to the Chron, the governor and legislative leaders plan to start asking for more federal funds in the weeks and months ahead as California faces a new $21 billion budget deficit. But it’s also time that the state’s Congressional delegation stepped up to the plate. California can no longer afford to subsidize a majority of other states while it continues to face massive financial problems of its own. Which has to make you wonder, why aren’t House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer doing more to fix this problem?
