Aiming for the all-day cafe trend, Cafe Réveille is a highly photogenic space with a seemingly tame food menu. The third location in a small chain of cafes from San Francisco, Berkeley’s Réveille fittingly found home on Fourth Street, alongside boutiques and wellness shops. Beyond the manicured surface, the Middle Eastern- and Mediterranean-inspired menu promises and delivers. The sandwiches here are flavorful and messy, the shakshuka is worthy of a fan club, and the brunch items, like mushrooms with poached eggs and potatoes, are satisfying and creative. On the weekend, seek out the saffron- and cardamom-infused French toast, an unusual twist on the classic.
