Whether you want to make it yourself or peruse aisles of goodies crafted by a local indie designer, you're sure to find a unique item to adorn your body, child, or home. Plus, check out happening sales in the East Bay and new stores!

The Mother of All Crafting: The American Craft Show
Two hundred and fifty artists will display their handcrafted jewelry, furniture, clothing, home décor, and more this weekend at the
American Craft Show hosted by the American Craft Council. While you're there, attend lectures on craft and design, take a walking tour, and enjoy wine tastings. Plus, this year's event features a special section just for kids!
When: Fri., Aug. 10 & Sat., Aug. 11, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun. Aug. 12, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Where: Fort Mason Center, Herbst & Festival Pavilions, San Francisco

Crafting & Baking
For something decidedly more low-key, try this first-ever craft fair and bake sale hosted by
Modern Times Bookstore. If you're inclined to bake, feel free to donate your own baked goods! Plus, music in the afternoon.

DIY Crafting
The folks of
SF Craft Mafia bring you "A Family Affair" - a variety of DIY activities and demos including clothing customization and embellishment, jewelry-making, and cupcake decorating. (What's with crafting and desserts?) Bring a shirt to customize - patterns, supplies and instructions will be provided. A free event!
When: Sun., Aug. 12, 2 p.m.-6 p.m.

New Vintage Knitwear Trunk Show
Ohio Knitting Mills made unique, colorful knitwear at its Cleveland factory from 1947 to 1974. Today, a large inventory of its never-worn items - including men's and women's sweaters, capes, vests, shirts, dresses, and jackets -- are available for purchase. Though the company has a store in New York, a rare trunk show takes place this weekend in San Francisco.
