Comedy, Drama
The Coen Bros.’ frequently funny, ultimately trying story about Washington, DC noodniks double-crossing each other fits into the Raising Arizona-O Brother, Where Art Thou? section of their filmography, where the failed comedies live. There’s a high-priced cast (Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand) and a series of interlocking sight gags revolving around two gym trainers (Pitt and McDormand) and their disastrous attempt to get into the spy business, but the hasty-looking screenplay — written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen is nowhere near the level of the Coens’ best work. View, laugh, and forget (91 min.).
