Brother Ray

When: Sat., Dec. 14, 8-10 p.m. 2019
Price: $20 in advance / $25 day-of-show
Bryan Dyer is probably best known for holding down the low end in several capaciously inventive a cappella ensembles, such as Keith Terry’s improvisation-laced all-body group Slammin, Linda Tillery’s soul-steeped Cultural Heritage Choir, and the jazz powerhouse SoVoSo. But backed by serious players, Dyer is a dynamo who brings genial authority to an array of R&B iterations. In other words, he’s ideally suited to present a tribute to Ray Charles, and the program he’s put together encompasses Brother Ray’s beloved hits and holiday classics. He’s joined by a superlative cast that includes Janice Maxie-Reid on piano, keys and vocals; Paul Branin on guitar and saxophone; Sundra Manning on keys; Ronnie Smith on drums and vocals; bassist Kevin Scott; and soul singer supreme Zoe Ellis, Dyer’s musical partner in the aforementioned a cappella groups.
