Broncho and White Lung

When: Wed., March 6, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $7-$10

Tulsa, Oklahoma-based BRONCHO defined its niche of garage pop -- a combination of the raw power of Iggy and the Stooges and the sincerity of The Replacements -- on its 2011 debut Can't Get Past the Lips. Over the course of ten songs, singer Ryan Lindsey channels everyone across the punk spectrum, from Jonathan Richman to The Ramones. Though the whole album is unabashedly infectious, the track "Try Me Out Sometime" stands out: With the simplest of jangly guitar riffs and Lindsey's washed-out yelps, it's a classic, honey-sweet come-on from boy to girl. BRONCHO winds up its songs like tightly coiled springs with hook-heavy, chant-worthy choruses that vanish in a hey! hey!before you know it (usually about two minutes). Bask in the Midwestern charm when BRONCHO performs with Canadian punkers White Lung and Oakland's own Wax Idols at The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland) on Wednesday, Mar. 6. 9 p.m. $7, $10.
