Broadway Shuttle, BART Offering Extended New Year's Eve Hours

So you're planning on staying out late in the celebrated Jack London/Downtown/Uptown neighborhoods of Oakland on New Year's Eve — maybe at the Fox (Erykah Badu and The Coup) or the New Parish (Rich Medina's thePeople NYE Ball). And you want to drink. (It's New Year's Eve, and the world didn't end.) Or maybe you just don't want to deal with parking. Fair 'nuff.

Solution: the Broadway Shuttle, Oakland's free bus service running along Broadway from Jack London Square to 27th Street in Koreatown/Northgate. Thanks to special funding from AC Transit and the City of Oakland, the Free B, as it's called in PR-speak, will run extended service from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. (as it does every Friday and Saturday night) on New Year's Eve, a Monday. That's late enough to ring in the New Year, finish your champagne, dance to Cher, discuss the fiscal cliff, ponder the next apocalypse theory, and stumble to the nearest stop, where you can then connect to BART at 12th St. or 19th St., which, as per usual, runs until 3 a.m. for the night. It's sorta like living in a city that never sleeps.

FYI, the Broadway Shuttle will have a normal operation schedule on: Monday, December 24; Wednesday, December 26; Thursday, December 27; Friday, December 28; and Saturday, December 29. But the shuttle will not operate at all Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Party down and stay safe, everyone.
