Artistic Director Marilyn Langbehn journeys into the company’s 60th season by following a star — Bright Star, the five-time Tony-nominated musical from Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Award-winning Steve Martin and Grammy Award-winning Edie Brickell. Launching from real events involving an editor, a would-be-writer returning from WWII and paying homage to great writers from the South, among them, Thomas Wolfe and Eudora Welty, the musical is set in North Carolina in the 1940’s with flashbacks to the ‘20s. A rollicking, kick-ass Bluegrass score is the real star. Look for vibrant music direction from Sheela Ramesh and folksy, square-set-askew dancing in choreography by Allison Paraiso-Silicani. Though the plot’s a bit convoluted, there’s a swirling dervish of musicians and dancers to illuminate and provide clear rewards.
