On Friday night at The Uptown, we announced the winners of BRIEFS, the erotic short film festival we'd held the night before at the Grand Lake Theater. Here they are:

East Bay Express Staff Pick: NEUROTICA, directed by Daniel Kennard

Judges' Award: SEX {1,2,3}, directed by Ren Dodge & Ashley Cox

Audience Choice: HELLA BROWN, directed by Nenna Feelmore Joiner

We'd show you clips, but you kinda had to be there. Thanks so much to the Grand Lake for allowing us to invade, to Master of Ceremonies Jamie DeWolf for being hilarious, to our judges for engaging in the hard work of watching all that erotica, to our filmmakers for making all that erotica, and to our audience members for being there and unfathomably sexy, every last one of you. See you next year!

History-laden thrillers, intellectual capers, a romantic heroine with a Ph.D, a murder mystery penned by a MacArthur Genius: This summer’s best books — many of which have local authors and settings — are equal parts brainy and beachy.
