Gay Canadian jocks bond cross-generationally in director Laurie Lynd’s likable family comedy, which pits a former NHL ice hockey star (Thomas Cavanagh) and his partner (Ben Shenkman) against their move-in “son,” a flamboyantly fruity eleven-year-old boy (Noah Bernett) with a closeted talent for slap shots. For what it’s worth, this is the first feature film with homosexual subject matter to receive full cooperation from a major sports franchise, in this case the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sean Reycraft adapted the screenplay from Michael Downing’s novel (90 min.).
