Drama
Actors Andrew Garfield and Peter Mullan are wonderful in two difficult roles: Garfield as “Jack,” a notorious ex-juvenile offender newly released from prison after fourteen years into civilian life in Manchester, England, and Mullan as his parole officer, a caring man plagued by family problems of his own. We might as well add Katie Lyons as Jack’s new girlfriend, who senses his anguish but can’t offer much help. They’re movingly directed by John Crowley (Intermission) from a screenplay adapted by Mark O’Rowe from the novel by Jonathan Trigell (100 min.).
