Boss Burger has an all-American retro diner feel and a stripped-down menu that looks no different from what you’d find at any run-of-the-mill fast food restaurant. But this is a burger joint that isn’t shy about the clarity of its convictions — a fact that becomes evident as soon as you see the all-bolded sign posted on the register, which warns customers that “BOSS FRIES ARE NOT VEGETARIAN.” They’re fried in 100-percent grass-fed beef tallow — a decision motivated by both health considerations and flavor. There is an appealing simplicity to the burgers and other sandwiches at Boss Burger. The burger, made from Five Dot Ranch beef that’s ground in-house daily, is sloppy, juicy, and flavor-packed. The fried chicken sandwich compares favorably to Chick-Fil-A’s signature Southern-style offering. And the house-made veggie patty, which is oddly reminiscent of a Portuguese salt cod fritter, proved to be yet another delicious surprise.
