Bootie Prom

When: Sat., April 30, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $15
If the perennial popularity of Gregg Michael Gillis is any indication, mash-ups never died. In fact, the form remains stubbornly, enduringly popular. That would explain why Bootie Prom DJs Adrian and Mysterious D chose "midnight mash-ups" as an artistic muse for their next event, which also features sets by Cookie Dough, experimental tribute band The Cool Table (which operates in much the way a DJ would, by "sampling" elements of familiar pop songs and mixing them together on live instruments), and the Fandango DJs Malderor, Olde Nasty, and Mad Murdock. Promising that each set will be a "supremely danceable" patchwork of up to six songs - or parts thereof - playing simultaneously, Bootie Prom shows just how high-concept and ambitious a mash-up show can be. And, hopefully, it'll still make good on the name "Bootie Prom." At Mezzanine (444 Jessie St., San Francisco) on Saturday, Apr. 30. 9 p.m., $15. MezzanineSF.com.
