Bone Sickness

When: Thu., May 30, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $6

Death metal seems to be making a comeback in the underground. I don't mean the neon-logo-on-black-shirt-wearing kind, but the stripped-down, early-Eighties, thrash-related version. And one such band getting a lot of praise in the blogosphere right now is Olympia, Washington's Bone Sickness, whose new twelve-inch EP is being hailed as a raw and grindy form of the genre: gruff, barked vocals (by the drummer, no less); lightning-fast tempos; quick and furious guitar solos; and equally short song lengths. The seven tracks on Alone in the Grave, released on April 30 by 20 Buck Spin, may be primitive in their approach, but they're executed with stunning technicality. Recommended for fans of old-school gory death metal. With Laceration, Rude, and Caffa at the Continental Club (1658 12th St., Oakland).
