Kim Gordon made some excellent, raw-yet-melodic songs back in her Sonic Youth days: "Swimsuit Issue" from Dirty and "The Sprawl" from Daydream Nation, to name two. When Gordon divorced her bandmate Thurston Moore, a dynasty ended, but a new one grew tentatively from those ashes. Body/Head, a new collaboration between Gordon and free-noise guitarist Bill Nace, leaves behind Sonic Youth's traditional noise-rock exterior and reverts back to the band's more experimental, no-wave beginnings. Since the collaboration is still in its nascent stage, Body/Head has only released an oddball mix of singles, and the most substantial example of the duo's work thus far is a 23-minute video of Gordon and Nace performing at a venue in Belgium. It features the pair bathed in the light of a flickering projector, playing a mesmerizing one-song set of guitar-driven, feedback-washed atmospherics bolstered by Gordon's incoherent, ghostly murmurings. Let the noise carry you and the textures overwhelm you when Body/Head opens the weeklong Noise Pop Festival at Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell St., San Francisco) on Tuesday, Feb. 26, along with openers Horsebladder, Burmese, and Noel Von Harmonson. 8 p.m., $15.
