You miss the point entirely, Michael. A reasonable reader has excellent reason to doubt everything in the story because of the author's close connection to the matter. I didn't say word one expressing doubt in the story's assertions. It's a basic simple rule of journalism -- if you are connected to the story, you don't report on it. Even if you maintain an editorial distance it creates the impression of a conflict of interest with a reader.

Bravo for the disclosure, not like you had a choice, but man. Takes the wind right out of that story. You shouldn't have reported this, period. Someone else on staff who has no connection should have done it, and it astounds me that you or anyone else at EBE thought it would be OK for you to cover it.
