When: Sun., March 12, 1-6 p.m. 2017
Price: Free
The first annual Birth of Butoh festival will honor the founder of Ankoku Butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata (1928-1986). Koichi and Hiroko Tamano, true East Bay treasures, carry the legacy of his work and are hosting this event. The afternoon festivities (1-3pm) are FREE to the public, featuring live dance music by Kombrig Yaskin, with a big bonfire, children’s activities, including seed-bombs for planting, along with yummy Japanese food. The early evening show (4-6pm) inside the Berkeley Art Center gallery ($10-30, sliding scale) will be accompanied by sound artist Mark Deutsch.
